‘Man Buns’ Are Taking Over The Fashion World: How Do You Feel?

"This is really cool. I had to blog it!" But this is a passing trend and more celebrity driven. Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Chris Hemsworth of Thor  and Avengers (to be released) fame have rocked this look but lets not generalize! Most men can't carry buns! Short crop, a little wavy, prim and proper with a side parting and slick styles are ruling the roost currently!

My view -> contrary to the belief manscaping isn't a new phenomenon as it is made out to be.With laces, periwigs, and powder all over the men in the early 18th century especially in Europe, Men wore dandy clothes almost to a point of looking effeminate and grooming was of utmost importance to them.

I fully endorse the clean-look and i'm also very clear about my manscaping needs. Although, having lots of hair is a sign of manhood - yet, this may not hold true today. Lot of people may not think so - Read more @

Paris and Milan Mens Fashion Week (Fall/Winter) 2012-2013 - Superhit!

If the catwalk trends at this year's Men's Fashion Week in Milan and Paris are anything to go by, men are truly spoilt for choices.
Is it the dapper dude look - uber suave and business-like with hints of femininity(glitter of gold and swarovski et al) Vs grunge punk aka more masculine complete with studs and piercings or is it going complete burlesque, scary, military-inspired style to elaborately decorative to an extent of looking frankenstein-ish to typical old school classic looks that are so tried and tested, been there and done that?

It is a study in contrast when runway trends and divergent viewpoints of the designers' clash on the runway and off it. But, this all makes one helluva grand show spanning across the two most fashion conscious cities in the world - Milan and Paris! It's rocking so far and a sure shot Superhit!

Case in point - Is Bling in or out? Read more @

Looking forward to Lanvin and Rynshu Hashimoto shows.
Feedback -
Clearly the winners so far are Gucci, Versace, DSquared2, and the Belgian designer Kris Van Assche for their awesome menswear collections!

Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini used the dark luxurious elements as the overall theme of the Menswear FW12/13 collection. The collection zip-zapped through Gucci's  predominantly sharp tailored look, over-sized overcoats, statement hold-alls, military-style jackets and dandy velvet and silk fabrics that make the brand a fine connoisseur of men's high fashion!

I particularly adored the velvet jackets in rich dark colors especially - burgundy and I am gushing over the printed floral slim-fit slacks.

I would have loved to see some color though. Too much of dark fantasy gets boring!

This wraps up my post to one query from my readers -

Would you wear a nose ring?

Are we ready for Fashion Transformers? + A long note on Smart/Intelligent Clothing

Fashion through the ages has gone through an amazing transformation and the latest development in fashion is resulting in a clear sense of practicality and logicality that is defying it's confines of surrealism and showing a techno-fashion future in the making.

Fashion becoming more multipurpose is passe. But fashion becoming smarter and intelligent and technologically inclined is ours to embrace!

Past decade has seen smart clothing idea germinating to now culminating to a more wearable and fashionable avatar.

There was a time not very long back, when multipurpose clothing meant reversible jackets, waterproof material, temperature control fabrics used extensively in our many clothing options..but off late multipurpose has acquired a whole new technological definition!

Why Fashion "Transformers"? More than Megan Fox, what clicked in Transformers were the life-like robots that could disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery- has had a very positive influence in design and innovation especially in fashion - and this innovation in clothing and accessories is going to drive and alter the dynamics of retail sales and augment revenues!

Also, recessionary trends and rising cost globally has resulted in an explosion of innovative design. Designers across the world are trying options that are not just designer but innovative to the core and to a large extent economically (use of recyclable fabrics, blended/ fusion fabrics, All weather fabrics), ecologically (green fashion) safe.

The emphasis is on zero waste and on smart/intelligent garments that can be worn forever..never becoming vintage - is here to stay (something like the long-wearing fabrics)!

Imagine a piece of clothing like a shirt made out of the best fabric that you can dynamically alter or transform into a Tote Bag, a Hat and even a Hoodie Jacket!

Or Imagine a scarf that can become a Tie, a Pocket square, a Handkerchief, a pair of Socks, and even a Belt!

Fashion transformers are a sophisticated version of modular clothing that has been around for ages that require assembling of  interlocking pieces of clothing  into multiple outfits of choice, something like playing "building blocks" with your clothes! You would love finding alternative style of your clothes year on year!

Only now there seems to be no dirth of talent and creativity as people begin to realize the value for money that fashion transformers bring to the table!

Possibly, shoe designer Sharon Golan is the only person I can think of for successfully leveraging creativity for this kind of transformational innovation-

Watch this amazing video on what she has achieved with only a few pieces of components/ modular parts that are equivalent to 256 pairs of shoes! http://www.myshell256.com/

The day isn't far when you could accomplish owning much less and yet having multiple fashion options in your wardrobe! Imagine not having to spend money on excess and mass consumerism in the name of fashion! People who indulge in a so-called fashion dieting (curbing the urge to spend on clothes can heave a sigh of relief....perhaps :))

This is my dream and should well become yours someday too :)

Ever heard of chameleon clothing? i.e. color changing clothes? It could soon be a reality. We already have devices that change color as per a user's emotion/ mood, the same logic could apply to clothes! Imagine 1 shirt in multiple color options without changing the shirt itself!

Imagine, clothes that could with the ability to self-clean!

Possibilities are limitless!

The Darling Denim - All about Jeans

There isn't anything more cult and vintage than the Denim (Click on the link to read more on Denim types and history)! Introduced way back in the 18th century, the denim culture is ingrained in our sartorial lives so much so that our lives are practically incomplete without this very very essential piece of fabric!

More on Denim history, over the ages etc. wonderfully put together @ Denim

Levis, Diesel and 7 for All Mankind and True Religion (my fav jeans brands of all time) and host of other jeans-wear brands wouldn't have been in existence had it not been for Denims that ushered in a mod revival, a renaissance in fashion, and casual and semi-formal wear took an amazing turn for the better!

In fact my all time favorite signature style has been an indigo(the classic color) dark wash jeans paired with a blazer or a white dress shirt worn with a logo belt & trademark buckle:
Read and see more @

Signature Look (Style) - How to identify yours? + My Signature Look Dissected

Denim has been established as the ultimate fabric of choice for casual wear. This is a fact. But Denim has moved out of being merely just a casual wear to being a designer wear!

And, the whole idea of this post is actually about only one feature, and one feature alone : Denim/ Jeans wear (Denim refers to the fabric and Jeans refers to pants made out of denim)- How, why and what to wear with your jeans!

My love affair with denims started way back in my early teens during the late 80s and the onset of the 90s when Jeans to teens like me meant torn and worn out or probably acid wash! I remember how me and my friends huddled with our savings to the nearest market hoping to get our first awesomest pair! I also loved the denim jackets short and cropped and loved the all-denim cowboy look (more on this bit later).

And at that point in time, I struggled with umpteen queries on denim-wear. I wasn't wearing the right kinds, color co-ordination was haywire, comfort was an issue, and style was the biggest casualty! Moreover, I didn't know what denim brands existed out there!

Although Jeans are a classic and the most obvious choice guys pick up with ease for casual-wear, they may not be always "right" in wearing their jeans the "right" way.

Thus began my fashion quest and gladly I haven't looked back since then. I managed to get it right and no matter how much my body weight and physical stats fluctuate, till date I have been getting it right - wearing my jeans, color, comfort et al - all good!

What I gathered back then has helped me in good stead till now and I'm sharing with you all. Following latest trends is cool but not enough when the trend doesn't fit in with your style and body type!

The biggest hurdle is perhaps not knowing one's body type. Evaluating one's body type is the first step towards getting it "right".

Men's bodies classified into 4 types(shapes) + Your Body Type Calculator via Vata-Pitta-Kapha classification

Jeans come in various avatars just like our body types differ from body to body.

Men can be muscular, short, tall, slim, fat, skinny, lean, bulky, athletic etc.and there are jeans for all these types!

The only way for guys to get the right fit is to try squeezing their hips and crotch into them. Hips don't lie! Try out as many pairs and brands as possible.  Since the same size varies across brands.

For tall men or men with long legs, straight-cuts, relaxed are the best fit that be able to snuggle up your waist like a glove; Similarly, for slim guys,  Jeans should fit your thighs and derriere and especially the crotch :) comfortably if it's slim-fitted or skinnies.

Men who are rotund (stomach and hips) should only wear high-waisted jeans that cover the belly area to perfection + giving your hips an overwhelmingly leaner and toned look.

The second hurdle is getting the colors right. Colored denims in red, orange, purple/ violet, green look good on few while look hideous on others! If colored denims make you look funny, then stick to classic blues - indigo, light, dark; and blacks and subtle colors like the family of whites, grays and browns.

Colored denims are the hottest trend around this season. But like I said, trends come and go, your style shouldn't be compromised! Read more @

Paint the Town With Next's On-Trend Coloured Jeans

Yup, one more query that guys usually have is on wearing Denim on Denim - right or wrong?

Well, denim-denim co-ordination isn't bad at all! If cowboys can do it, why can't other lesser or better mortals? :)

If you are pairing a denim with denim, might as well do the Americana way! Or, as I say, the way the cowboys do - In style!  Yup, don't forget to put on your cowboy hat!

Pic- country-western-online-shop.aigletec.com
What to wear on top? I always believe if you have sorted out your bottom, any top will look stylish! With denim, Top options are unlimited! Shirts, Blazers, T-shirts, Jackets, etc. anything and everything goes well when paired with the right set of denims!

Remember, fashion offers innumerable options for us men to highlight and hide aspects of our bodies. We just need to be aware of those options. Like, for a Weight Loss/ leaner Look if you are flabby, wear Vertical Stripes and to look fuller if you are lean, wear Horizontal Stripes.

Green innovation is the latest buzzword doing rounds in the industry.
