This year has been about making a
fashion statement of sorts. A very modernist take on classic; audaciously androgynous and plentiful gleeful(or gayful) representation of colors and silhouettes showing a multifaceted dynamism in the fashion world - I
know for sure that irrespective of what the economic outlook appears to
be - for the designers and fashion brands, this year and the year to
come are the years reckoning with flamboyance and cheer- the agents of
change and hope!
This brings me to my post. Why Menswear is hell-bent on making a fashion statement?
What?
We hear the term "statement"
a lot in fashion. Don't confuse "statement" with it's dictionary
equivalent.
Statement in fashion often refers to
the fol.things but obviously not limited to :) because this word is used to by
fashion gurus around the world to fill a gap of convenience -
"Statement" may refer
to symbol of wealth - an Investment in fashion - haute couture, luxury,
something expensive (like the statement watches/ eyewear etc.)
"Statement" may
also mean exclusivity - something that's not worn on daily basis. It's not mass
produced and only few people "own" it.
"Statement" could
mean "heritage" - like a family heirloom that royals pass on to their
descendants - Can be a vintage piece of clothing or even jewellery etc.
"Statement" may
refer to being "unique" - something that has an appeal that lasts
decades- is timeless!
"Statement" is also
an expression in fashion and style that accentuate and enhances the
appeal either being extraordinarily dissimilar, different Or, distinctive
and even abnormally divine.
"Statement" may
also refer to a memorable piece that has a special connection with you -
a gift from loved one, invaluable becasue of it's Emotional value.
Why?
The future of men and menswear is
poised to take an exciting turn and will take great giant strides in the coming
times - and that turning point is already in existence and full force now!
When?
For men the timing is just right to go on pushing their
style acumen - fashion boundaries to the veritable extremes of getting noticed
and how!... And in the process creating a whole new species of brand identity!
The mantra for making a fashion statement in the year of apocalypse and beyond is to invest in lots of frivolity and eye popping color from the hat to the
shoes.
Go big on sexy shorts, florals, stripes, bold prints and experiment with neon accessories from head to toe! Yes, till the Olympics last, sportswear is also a style statement!
The idea is to be different, not boring and drab.
